9 Reasons Why… Your school should support Sport Relief

Sport Relief this year runs from 9th to 13th March (see what we did there…) and aside from being a great excuse to wear joggers to school for the day, is an amazing opportunity for lots of other reasons too…

  1. Sporting events are fun!… Honest!

Let’s face it, sports and PE aren’t everyone’s bag at school. Most people will have a ‘running round a muddy field in the rain’ memory from school days, that they would rather forget. But by mixing it up and offering some ‘out-of-the-ordinary’ activities, you could well spark a lifetime love of a new sport, with some of your students, or dare we say it…yourself.

  1. Sport Relief funds better mental health care, right here in the UK

Sport Relief packs a real punch with mental health charities, stating that ‘over 74,000 people were supported to access mental health support services since the last event’. They also contributed a winning £4 million to provide mental health support and challenge discrimination and stigma – no mean feat!

  1. The activity ideas are endless

We strongly believe that there is no better way to spend a dull March day than getting involved with crazy sporting challenges. Try a keepy-uppie tournament, a hula-hooping competition, a penalty shootout or mini olympics.

  1. Sport Relief is ‘hopping mad’ about homelessness

Homelessness support charity Crisis suggest that people living on the street are ‘17 times more likely to have been victims of violence’. Last years Sport Relief helped over 15,000 people experiencing homelessness to access support and safe accommodation. Winners.

  1. Sport Relief helps children finish first

In Africa and Asia, millions of children die before their 5th birthday. Sport Relief encourages children in the UK to look wider to the global community and to use their positions of privilege to help other children across the world.

  1. Sport Relief puts girls front and centre

The idea that some people are worth less because of their gender is still a real issue in the UK and overseas. Sport Relief is tackling this by awarding £2 million from last year’s event to organisations working to eliminate violence against women and girls.

  1. Parents are super competitive

Nothing will spark parent’s ambitious fire quite like a parent and child footy or netball match. Or try something a bit different and host a family badminton challenge or sponsored fancy dress run.

  1. Sport Relief is challenging itself to a stronger performance

During last year’s event, schools and nurseries alone raised a whopping £4million for Sport Relief. They want to smash this target this year and need as many educational institutions as possible, to get involved and help in 2020.

  1. If all else fails…there’s always cake

There are no set rules for your Sport Relief event, in fact unlike most sports, you can make it up as you go along. No-one will mind if you swap the marathon run for a tea dance or the ice-skating challenge for a bake sale. Every event, no matter how big, small, challenging or simple goes towards helping the charity.

So what are you waiting for? Dust off your dancing shoes or sparkle your spatula and visit Sport Relief’s Website for more info. Don’t forget that at Paper Plus we have a huge range of PE and Sports Equipment to support any event or activity. Visit our website or give our friendly team a call for more information.

Happy sporting![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
